Privatization of FESCO Attracts 12 Expressions of Interest, Adviser Confirms

The Privatization Commission (PC) has received a total of 12 Expressions of Interest (EoIs) for the privatization of the Faisalabad Electric Supply Company (FESCO). This development marks a significant step in the government’s ongoing efforts to reform and privatize state-owned enterprises to improve efficiency and service delivery in the power sector. FESCO, one of the major electricity distribution companies in Pakistan, serves millions of consumers, making its privatization a critical move for the energy market.

Notably, the influx of 12 EoIs reflects growing investor confidence in Pakistan’s energy infrastructure and the potential for enhanced operational performance under private management. The privatization initiative aligns with broader economic reforms aimed at reducing fiscal burdens and attracting foreign and domestic investment. The government expects that privatization will lead to better management, reduced losses, and improved customer service in the power distribution network.

Meanwhile, the process will proceed with due diligence and evaluation of the submitted EoIs to select suitable bidders for the next phase. The successful privatization of FESCO could set a precedent for further reforms in the energy sector, contributing to Pakistan’s long-term energy security and economic growth. This move is also seen as part of Pakistan’s commitment to modernizing its infrastructure and attracting private sector participation in critical utilities.
