Karachi Traffic Plan Announced for Tuesday’s Chehlum Procession

Karachi Traffic Police unveiled a detailed traffic management strategy on Monday for the central Chehlum procession set for Tuesday, August 4. Several roads will be closed to facilitate the event, which will begin at 9am from Nishtar Park.

MA Jinnah Road will be completely closed during the procession. Vehicles traveling from Saddar towards Tower will be rerouted via Preedy Street and II Chundrigar Road. Additional diversions will be implemented around key areas including Lighthouse, Empress Market, Regal Chowk, and Tibet Centre.

Traffic approaching from Shahrah-e-Quaideen will be redirected through Kashmir Road and People’s Chowrangi. Those coming from Korangi, Landhi, and the National Highway will be diverted onto Rashid Minhas Road and the Super Highway. Motorists from Nazimabad can access their destinations using Lasbela, Garden, and Nishtar Road.

Traffic originating from Liaquatabad will be diverted at Lasbela Chowk towards Nazimabad No 10. Vehicles from Hassan Square will be routed through Shahrah-e-Quaideen, Society Light Signal, and Teen Hatti before reaching Lasbela Chowk. Meanwhile, traffic from Shahrah-e-Faisal will be redirected via Society Light Signal and Sher Shah Suri Road.

Motorists traveling from Jamshed Road to Guru Mandir are advised to take alternate routes such as Bahadur Yar Jang Road or Soldier Bazaar Road. In a significant development, heavy vehicles will be prohibited from entering the city between 10am and the end of the procession.

Parking along the procession route will be strictly banned, with any vehicles violating this rule subject to immediate towing. The Chehlum observance, held on August 4 this year, commemorates the martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) and the Karbala martyrs, marking the conclusion of the 40-day mourning period after the Battle of Karbala in 680 AD.

Mourning processions featuring Alam, Tazia, and Zuljinah will be conducted across various cities in the province, accompanied by enhanced security measures to ensure solemnity and safety.
