Kuwait Imposes KD 150 Fee for Visit Visa to Residency Conversion

Kuwait has introduced a new fee of KD 150 for individuals seeking to convert their visit visas into residency permits. This policy change affects expatriates currently in the country on visit visas who wish to extend their stay by obtaining residency status. The fee aims to regulate the visa conversion process and generate additional revenue for administrative purposes.

Previously, converting a visit visa to residency involved different procedures and costs, but this fixed fee standardizes the process. The move is significant as Kuwait hosts a large expatriate population, many of whom enter on visit visas and later seek residency for work or family reasons. This fee may influence the decisions of foreign nationals regarding their stay and employment in Kuwait.

In a broader context, Kuwait’s adjustment of visa-related fees reflects ongoing efforts by Gulf countries to manage immigration and labor markets more effectively. The new charge could also impact businesses and sponsors who facilitate visa conversions for their employees. Meanwhile, expatriates and legal advisors will need to factor this cost into their planning for residency applications moving forward.
