In Swat’s Matta area, a joint operation conducted by the police and the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) resulted in the deaths of four terrorists, with several others wounded. During this intense operation, an Elite Force constable lost his life, highlighting the ongoing security challenges in the region.
Security forces successfully gained control over a key location in the Rashid Sar area of Matta. The operation remains active and will continue until the complete neutralization of the militant group Fitna al-Khawarij. Reports indicate that the terrorists had taken refuge inside a residential building, using the inhabitants as human shields to resist the security forces’ advance.
Tragically, Elite Force constable Gulfam Khan was martyred in the line of duty during the operation. This incident underscores the heightened threat level in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan provinces, where terror activities have escalated since 2021 following the Taliban’s takeover in Afghanistan.
Pakistan has persistently called on the Taliban administration to control terrorist factions operating across the border. After Kabul’s failure to act, Islamabad launched Operation Ghazab lil-Haq in February this year as a response to cross-border militant attacks originating from Afghanistan.
Meanwhile, funeral prayers for the fallen constable were held at the Police Lines in Swat. The ceremony was attended by prominent officials including the Malakand commissioner, the Regional Police Officer (RPO), the Swat District Police Officer (DPO), alongside army and police personnel and numerous members of civil society. A police contingent rendered a guard of honour to honor the constable’s bravery and sacrifice.
In a solemn tribute, the Malakand RPO remarked, “Police martyrs are the nation’s true heroes, and their sacrifices will always be remembered.”
