PPP Challenges Maryam Nawaz’s Electric Bus Gift to AJK Election Commission

The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has formally lodged a complaint with the Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Election Commission concerning Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz’s recent pledge to provide 10 electric buses to AJK before the upcoming elections.

PPP Secretary General Nayyar Bukhari held a meeting with AJK Chief Election Commissioner Justice (retd) Ghulam Mustafa Mughal, urging the commission to take action regarding the buses, which prominently feature images of Maryam Nawaz.

Bukhari criticized the use of public assets for political gain following the announcement of the election schedule, describing it as a clear breach of electoral laws and the established code of conduct. He contended that these buses, funded by Punjab taxpayers, were effectively being used as a political incentive to sway voters in AJK.

He further questioned the legitimacy of displaying Maryam Nawaz’s pictures on the buses, demanding clarification on whether these vehicles were acquired through personal funds. Bukhari emphasized that government resources must not be exploited to promote any individual political figure.

In a significant development, Maryam Nawaz had earlier declared the donation of 10 state-of-the-art green electric buses for AJK during her election campaign events. Following directives from the Punjab government, the buses were dispatched to AJK, bearing her images alongside the message: “A gift for Azad Kashmir.”
