At least 35 individuals lost their lives and 30 others sustained injuries following a severe collision between two passenger buses in Syria on Saturday. The accident took place on the busy Deir al-Zor–Damascus highway, a critical route connecting major cities in the country.
One of the buses involved was transporting members of the Internal Security Forces, while the other was a civilian passenger vehicle. The Interior Ministry confirmed the involvement of both buses, highlighting the tragic impact on both security personnel and ordinary citizens.
In a significant development, helicopters operated by the Defence Ministry were deployed to assist in the emergency response. These aircraft played a crucial role in evacuating the injured and transporting the deceased from Palmyra Airport to a military hospital located in Homs, ensuring prompt medical attention and recovery efforts.
Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad al-Shaibani publicly extended his condolences to the families affected by this devastating incident. He also conveyed his wishes for a swift recovery to those injured, underscoring the national grief and the government’s commitment to supporting victims during this difficult time.
