President Zardari Firmly Defends Pakistan’s Sovereignty Amid Afghan Taliban Tensions

In a resolute declaration from Islamabad, President Asif Ali Zardari emphasized that Pakistan will never compromise on its territorial sovereignty, regardless of the circumstances. He issued a stern warning to the Afghan Taliban, cautioning them not to mistake Pakistan’s pursuit of peace for vulnerability or weakness. The president’s remarks come amid escalating cross-border tensions and recent violent incidents that have tested the country’s security framework.

President Zardari underscored that Pakistan is fully aware of the origins and supporters of the violence destabilizing the region. He made it clear that those responsible for perpetuating bloodshed will not evade accountability or remain beyond the reach of Pakistan’s security apparatus. This statement reflects the government’s firm resolve to protect the nation’s borders and maintain internal stability against any external threats.

Highlighting the unwavering spirit of the Pakistani people alongside the dedication of the armed forces, the president described the military as a steadfast shield guarding the country’s territorial integrity. He reiterated that Pakistan’s peace, stability, and sovereignty are non-negotiable, dismissing any illusions that the nation might yield to intimidation or coercion. This message serves as a clear signal to both domestic and international audiences about Pakistan’s commitment to defending its frontiers.

President Zardari also praised the prompt and decisive actions taken by Pakistan’s security forces in response to recent provocations. He acknowledged their preparedness and capability to dismantle hostile plans aimed at undermining the country’s security. The president’s comments came in the wake of a suicide bombing at a mosque in Islamabad on February 8, an attack that had previously prompted him to issue a strong warning to the Taliban regime. He reiterated this warning on February 22, emphasizing the government’s intolerance for continued aggression.

Reflecting on the past five years, the president lamented the Taliban regime’s betrayal, noting that despite being Pakistan’s benefactor, it has supported terrorist activities through the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP). He expressed disappointment over the failure of diplomatic efforts, including those involving allied nations, to steer the Taliban away from violent extremism. The recent cross-border incursions by the Afghan Taliban, which directly challenge Pakistan’s sovereignty, mark a dangerous escalation that the government refuses to overlook.

In response to these provocations, Pakistan launched the ‘Ghazab Lil Haq’ military operation on the night of February 26, targeting multiple locations along the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa border. This operation was a direct retaliation to unprovoked attacks by Afghan Taliban forces. The Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Attaullah Tarar, reported that the offensive resulted in the deaths of 133 Taliban fighters and injuries to over 200 others. He further revealed that strategic targets associated with the Taliban were struck in Kabul, Paktia, and Kandahar, indicating the operation’s extensive reach.

Minister Tarar also noted that the operation was ongoing, suggesting that additional casualties could occur as Pakistan’s military continues to dismantle hostile elements. This robust response underscores the government’s determination to safeguard national security and send a clear message that any aggression against Pakistan will be met with decisive force. The situation remains tense, but Pakistan’s leadership and armed forces remain vigilant in protecting the country’s territorial integrity and peace.
