Pakistan Senate Unanimously Rejects Israeli Claims, Reaffirms Strong Support for Palestine

In a significant parliamentary development, Pakistan’s Senate on Tuesday unanimously adopted a resolution that firmly rejects recent statements made by Israel, which were viewed as provocative and detrimental to regional harmony. The resolution not only condemns Israel’s ongoing policies in the Palestinian territories but also reiterates Pakistan’s unwavering commitment to the Palestinian cause, emphasizing the right of Palestinians to self-determination and the establishment of a sovereign state.

The resolution was introduced by Senator Palwasha Mohammad Zai Khan, who presented it on behalf of all political parties represented in the Senate. This cross-party consensus highlights the depth of Pakistan’s solidarity with the Palestinian people and its collective concern over narratives that threaten the unity of the Muslim Ummah. The Senate expressed serious apprehension about statements attributed to Israeli officials that undermine peace efforts and regional stability.

Delving deeper, the Senate strongly criticized Israel’s actions, pointing out their blatant disregard for international law, including the United Nations Charter and various UN resolutions that call for the protection of Palestinian rights. The resolution also referenced the advisory opinion of the International Court of Justice, which underscores the illegality of Israeli settlements and occupation. The Senate condemned attempts to alter the legal and historical status of the occupied Palestinian territories, especially concerning the sanctity of holy sites, and denounced the expansion of settlements and forced displacement of Palestinian communities.

Moreover, the resolution expressed grave concern over provocative measures and statements by Israeli leadership that could escalate tensions and jeopardize peace both regionally and internationally. It also condemned Israel’s recent announcement recognizing the independence of Somaliland, describing this move as inconsistent with established international principles and norms. The Senate viewed such actions as attempts to undermine the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Muslim nations, further complicating diplomatic relations.

In its concluding sections, the resolution called upon the global community to hold Israel accountable for violations of international humanitarian and human rights laws, stressing the urgent need to end impunity for such actions. It demanded a complete Israeli withdrawal from all occupied territories and urged for increased, sustained, and unhindered humanitarian aid to Palestinians, with particular focus on the Gaza Strip, which continues to face severe hardships. The Senate also underscored the importance of early recovery and reconstruction efforts to alleviate the suffering of the Palestinian people.

Reaffirming Pakistan’s historic stance, the resolution reiterated full support for the establishment of an independent, viable, and contiguous Palestinian state based on the pre-1967 borders, with Al-Quds Al-Sharif (Jerusalem) as its capital. This position aligns with long-standing international consensus and Pakistan’s consistent diplomatic efforts to promote peace and justice in the region. The unanimous passage of this resolution sends a clear message of Pakistan’s solidarity with Palestine and its commitment to upholding international law and human rights.
