Sindh Faces Intense Heatwave with Temperatures Nearing 50°C

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a heatwave warning for Sindh, forecasting temperatures to soar as high as 50 degrees Celsius in multiple districts over the coming days. A high-pressure system over upper Sindh is expected to strengthen from Tuesday onward, leading to moderate to severe heatwave conditions across most parts of the province until May 31.

Forecasts indicate that districts such as Sukkur, Larkana, and Dadu could experience temperatures ranging between 47 and 50 degrees Celsius. Meanwhile, areas including Tharparkar, Badin, Hyderabad, Mirpurkhas, and Jamshoro are likely to see temperatures between 44 and 47 degrees Celsius.

The PMD has urged the public, especially vulnerable groups like children, women, and the elderly, to take necessary precautions to protect themselves from the extreme heat. Additionally, farmers have been advised to carefully manage their crops and livestock in response to the harsh weather conditions.

In a significant development, the meteorological department also warned that electricity demand is expected to surge during the heatwave period. Citizens are encouraged to minimize unnecessary power consumption to help manage the increased load on the grid.

Meanwhile, Karachi is forecasted to experience temperatures between 34 and 36 degrees Celsius on Monday and Tuesday, with a slight rise to 35 to 37 degrees Celsius on Wednesday. The city is expected to continue receiving southwesterly sea breezes on Monday and Tuesday, which may provide some relief from the heat.
