Pakistani Entrepreneur Welcomes Former Mentor to AI Startup Outonomous

In a landmark development for Pakistan’s expanding role in global technology, Professor Jason Corso, a distinguished AI researcher and Toyota Motor Corporation Professor of AI & Robotics, has officially become part of Outonomous. This startup, founded by a Pakistani entrepreneur, is dedicated to advancing Physical AI and autonomous mobility solutions.

Internationally recognized for his expertise in Visual AI and robotics, Professor Corso also co-founded Voxel51, a prominent visual and multi-modal AI platform utilized by major corporations such as Google, Microsoft, Porsche, Walmart, Hyundai, and Medtronic. His involvement with Outonomous significantly strengthens the company’s efforts to develop scalable autonomy technologies for everyday vehicles.

For the founder of Outonomous, this collaboration holds profound personal significance. Nearly twenty years ago, Professor Corso taught him Visual AI during the early days of his AI career. Over time, their relationship evolved from mentorship to partnership, with Corso providing discreet guidance as the startup shaped its vision and technology.

The founder emphasized that many principles from those initial AI courses continue to influence Outonomous’s philosophy: to create technology that benefits people in practical, real-world contexts. Unlike companies focusing solely on limited robotaxi services, Outonomous aims to integrate autonomous technology into the billions of vehicles currently on global roads by leveraging real-world data, Visual AI, and LiDAR systems.

Moreover, their shared vision extends beyond transportation. Both believe AI should enhance accessibility, healthcare, and overall quality of life, especially for communities often overlooked by technological advances. Professor Corso is presently leading a major ARPA-H initiative to develop AI-powered mobile clinics to improve healthcare access in rural regions, a mission that aligns closely with Outonomous’s core values.

This appointment is viewed as a promising indicator of Pakistani entrepreneurs forging impactful connections at the forefront of global innovation, while harnessing technology to address genuine human challenges.
