US Urges Taiwan Parliament to Approve Comprehensive Defence Budget

The United States has intensified its diplomatic efforts to encourage Taiwan’s parliament to approve a comprehensive defence budget. This push comes amid increasing security concerns in the Taiwan Strait, where China’s military activities have escalated in recent years. The proposed budget aims to enhance Taiwan’s military capabilities and ensure the island’s self-defence readiness against potential threats.

In a significant development, the US views Taiwan’s defence budget as a critical component of regional stability and deterrence against Chinese aggression. Taiwan’s government has faced internal debates over the allocation of funds, balancing economic priorities with security needs. Meanwhile, the US continues to emphasize the importance of robust defence spending to support Taiwan’s sovereignty and democratic governance.

Passing the comprehensive defence budget would mark a key step in strengthening Taiwan’s military infrastructure, including procurement of advanced weaponry and modernization of forces. This move also signals to Beijing that Taiwan, backed by US support, is committed to maintaining its security and autonomy. The outcome of this parliamentary decision will have significant implications for cross-strait relations and the broader Indo-Pacific security landscape.
