Pakistan Denounces India’s Unfounded Claims on Pahalgam Attack Anniversary

The Foreign Office strongly condemned India on Thursday for launching a campaign of unfounded accusations and propaganda that attempt to associate Pakistan with the April 2025 Pahalgam incident. It highlighted that at a time when Pakistan and its international partners are actively engaged in diplomatic efforts to promote regional and global peace, India has once again chosen to propagate baseless allegations.

This response from the Foreign Office followed remarks made by the Indian Army on the anniversary of the Pahalgam attack. The two longstanding adversaries clashed in May last year after India initiated an unprovoked assault on Pakistan, triggered by the attack on tourists in Pahalgam, located in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), which resulted in 26 fatalities.

India accused Pakistan of orchestrating the deadly attack without presenting any evidence, a charge Islamabad firmly rejected while calling for a neutral investigation. Subsequently, India conducted unlawful missile strikes inside Pakistan, causing the deaths of several civilians and security personnel. Pakistan retaliated by shooting down seven Indian fighter jets, including three Rafale aircraft, destroying dozens of drones, and neutralizing an S-400 defense system.

The conflict between the two nuclear-armed neighbors concluded on May 10 with a ceasefire agreement brokered by the United States. In a sharp rebuke to New Delhi, the Foreign Office stated that it is regrettable that amid a continuing regional crisis, India remains focused on exploiting false narratives against Pakistan for narrow domestic political objectives.

Following Pakistan’s decisive response during Operation Bunyan-um-Marsoos last year, the Foreign Office described these allegations as part of India’s recurring strategy to divert attention from its ongoing sponsorship of terrorism across the region. It emphasized that such propaganda efforts fail to distract the international community from India’s continued occupation of IIOJK and its denial of Kashmiris’ right to self-determination, in violation of relevant United Nations resolutions.

Moreover, these tactics cannot mask India’s persistent undermining of regional peace through inflammatory rhetoric, repeated provocations, and aggressive military posturing. This includes India’s illegal unilateral suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty, a clear breach of international law.

The statement expressed hope that the global community will urge India to act responsibly and desist from rhetoric and actions that could derail ongoing efforts toward regional and international peace and security.

On the eve of the Pahalgam attack anniversary, Federal Minister for Information Attaullah Tarar criticized India for its failure to provide credible evidence supporting its allegations against Pakistan. In a televised address, he accused India of evading calls for an independent investigation, labeling the attack a “false flag operation.” Tarar described the incident as reflecting a mindset characterized by hollowness, illogical reasoning, false pride, arrogance, and greed. He added that despite a year having passed, India has yet to offer satisfactory explanations or address concerns related to the episode.
