Kanye West Postpones Marseille Concert Amid Controversy

American rapper Kanye West, who now goes by Ye, has postponed his scheduled concert in Marseille amid growing criticism linked to his controversial statements and actions associated with Nazism. The 48-year-old artist announced on X that after careful reflection, he decided to cancel his June 11 performance at the Orange Vélodrome.

Ye expressed his desire to avoid placing his fans in the midst of the ongoing controversy, acknowledging that it takes time for people to recognize his genuine efforts to make amends. This decision comes after significant pressure from French authorities, including Interior Minister Laurent Nunez, who reportedly attempted to block the event. Additionally, Marseille’s Mayor Benoît Payan had publicly declared that the rapper was unwelcome in the city.

The backlash against Ye intensified following his release of a pro-Nazi song and the sale of merchandise featuring a swastika. His controversial behavior has led to previous consequences, such as being banned from entering Australia last year and recently being denied entry to the United Kingdom due to antisemitic remarks. This UK ban resulted in the cancellation of his planned appearance at London’s Wireless Festival.

Despite these controversies, Ye continues to schedule performances internationally. Upcoming concerts are planned throughout Europe and Asia, including a newly arranged show in Chorzów on June 19.
