Kuwait Authority Summons Employer Over Labour Rights Violations

The Public Authority of Manpower in Kuwait has referred an employer and an executive manager to the General Department of Criminal Investigation (Residency Affairs Investigation) for suspected breaches involving recruitment practices and worker treatment. This action is part of ongoing legal procedures following incidents of large worker gatherings connected to labour disputes.

Notably, the Authority’s emergency response and collective complaints teams are working continuously alongside the Ministry of Interior to address reports promptly and protect all parties involved. Legal proceedings are underway against those found responsible, with investigations continuing in cooperation with relevant authorities.

The Authority received a report from the Public Security Sector about a gathering of over 400 workers. Labour Relations Department and field complaints teams were dispatched to the scene, where the crowd was controlled and dispersed with the help of security forces. Workers were interviewed to determine the reasons behind the assembly and the collective work stoppage involved.

The incident reportedly stemmed from disputes between employees and their employer. Following this, the employer was summoned, and precautionary measures were implemented to ensure the protection of workers’ rights during the investigation process.

In a significant development, a second gathering of approximately 300 workers occurred outside the Authority’s headquarters the following day. This assembly was also dispersed in coordination with security personnel, and further statements were collected from workers to clarify the nature of their grievances.

The Public Authority of Manpower has urged both employers and employees to comply fully with contractual obligations and labour laws. It emphasized the importance of resolving disputes through official channels rather than resorting to collective work stoppages or other regulatory breaches.
