    Punjab Sees 56% Drop in Crime Rate in Early 2026, CCD Reports

    The Crime Control Department (CCD) announced on Friday a substantial decrease in crime across Punjab, highlighting a 56% reduction in serious offenses during the first quarter of 2026. The specialized police unit tasked with crime prevention has noted marked improvements in the province’s overall security landscape.

    During the initial three months of 2026, various crime categories saw significant declines compared to the same period last year. Murders linked to robberies dropped by 50%, while injury cases fell by 68%. Robbery incidents decreased sharply by 81%, and street crimes involving snatching were down by 76%. Motorbike snatching cases declined by 43%, with motorbike thefts reduced by 51%. Car thefts fell by 60%, and car snatching incidents dropped by 67%. Additionally, house burglaries decreased by 47%.

    Meanwhile, Karachi faced a contrasting situation in March 2026, with over 3,600 vehicles reported stolen or snatched. Data from the Citizens-Police Liaison Committee (CPLC) recorded 3,624 vehicle theft and snatching cases citywide, including 157 cars and 3,467 motorcycles. Of these, 3,027 motorcycles were stolen, and 440 were snatched at gunpoint across various neighborhoods.

    Mobile phone theft also affected citizens, with 1,265 devices reported stolen during the same month. Car thefts numbered 140, while 17 cars were snatched at gunpoint. The month also saw 44 murder cases, six extortion incidents, and one kidnapping for ransom reported in Karachi.
