Saba Hameed has publicly addressed the prolonged legal dispute involving her daughter, singer Meesha Shafi, and fellow musician Ali Zafar, as the case approaches a potential resolution. The controversy began in April 2018 when Meesha Shafi accused Ali Zafar of harassment, allegations he has consistently denied, asserting they were attempts to tarnish his reputation.
The conflict has resulted in numerous court proceedings, including a defamation lawsuit filed by Ali Zafar, with the matter remaining under judicial review for several years. Recently, Saba Hameed has been attending court sessions on behalf of Meesha Shafi, who is currently living in Canada.
Speaking briefly to the press outside the courtroom, Hameed refrained from revealing specific details but conveyed a strong resolve regarding the case’s outcome. She stated, “I cannot discuss much about the case here because the verdict will be announced soon. We have been fighting this for eight years, and we refuse to accept defeat. Also, how can one engage with someone who shows no respect for women?” The actress, known for her role in Noor Jahan, emphasized the emotional toll of the ongoing battle.
Prior to the allegations, Ali Zafar and Meesha Shafi shared a friendly relationship, having been friends since college and frequently appearing together at social gatherings. Their professional collaboration included the popular song Chal Dil Mere.
Meanwhile, Ali Zafar was seen leaving the court accompanied by his wife, Ayesha Fazli, without making any statements to the media.
