WhatsApp to Launch ‘After Reading’ Feature for Enhanced Privacy

WhatsApp is preparing to roll out a new privacy enhancement designed to better protect users’ sensitive communications. The messaging app is currently testing a feature that will automatically erase messages once they have been read by the recipient.

This upcoming functionality, named “After Reading,” aims to give users more control over their private conversations by ensuring that messages disappear shortly after being viewed. Additionally, any messages left unopened will also be deleted after a predetermined time, preventing the buildup of unread content.

In a significant development, the feature will operate even if read receipts are disabled, as the app will detect when a message has been accessed and trigger its deletion accordingly. This marks an advancement beyond WhatsApp’s existing disappearing messages, which allow users to set various time intervals for message deletion.

Notably, the “After Reading” feature is expected to be particularly useful for sharing sensitive information such as one-time passwords or personal data that require limited exposure. This move aligns with WhatsApp’s ongoing commitment to enhancing user privacy and strengthening data security within its platform.

While the feature is still under development and not yet available to the public, it is anticipated to be included in future updates, reflecting the app’s continuous efforts to make digital communication safer and more reliable.
