Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko convened on Tuesday in Bishkek during the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Council of Heads of State meeting to discuss the strengthening of Pakistan-Belarus relations. Both leaders expressed satisfaction with the positive development of bilateral ties and agreed on the need to broaden collaboration across several key sectors.
The discussions highlighted the robust cooperation already established in political, trade, economic, defence, and cultural arenas. They reflected on President Lukashenko’s historic visit to Pakistan in November 2024 and Prime Minister Shehbaz’s visit to Belarus in April 2025 as milestones that laid a strong foundation for future engagement.
Notably, the two leaders agreed to intensify cooperation in trade, industry, agriculture, information technology, and vocational training, emphasizing the importance of building on the current momentum to expand mutually beneficial partnerships in priority areas.
In a significant development, Prime Minister Shehbaz, who is the incoming chair of the SCO Council of Heads of State, extended a cordial invitation to President Lukashenko to visit Pakistan next year, further cementing the commitment to deepen bilateral relations.
Both leaders reaffirmed their dedication to enhancing the longstanding friendly ties between their countries and to elevating the partnership to new heights. The meeting took place amid the broader SCO summit in Bishkek, where regional cooperation and the organisation’s future agenda were also key topics of discussion among leaders and senior officials.
