    US Missionary Pilot Kevin Rideout Freed After Nine Months in Niger Captivity

    Kevin Rideout, an American pilot affiliated with the evangelical missionary organization SIM International, has been freed after enduring nine months of captivity. He was initially abducted in Niamey, the capital city of Niger, a country that has faced increasing security challenges due to militant insurgencies. Rideout’s role involved providing critical aviation support for humanitarian and missionary activities across the region.

    His release marks a significant development amid ongoing concerns about the safety of foreign aid workers and missionaries in West Africa, where extremist groups have frequently targeted expatriates. The abduction highlighted the risks faced by those working in volatile areas, underscoring the broader security issues Niger and neighboring countries confront. International efforts to secure the release of hostages in the Sahel region have been complex and often prolonged.
