The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued a warning about the potential risk of flooding across several areas in Pakistan. This alert follows an assessment of river water flows and dam storage levels nationwide.
Currently, low-level flooding has been observed along the Indus River at Kalabagh, Chashma, Taunsa, and Guddu. Despite this, water flows in the Ravi, Chenab, Jhelum, Kabul, and Sutlej rivers remain within normal ranges. Similarly, the hill torrents in Dera Ghazi Khan and Rajanpur, along with Nullah Lai, are flowing normally at present.
However, the NDMA anticipates low-level flooding at various points along the Indus, Chenab, Ravi, Jhelum, and Kabul rivers. In a significant development, the authority has highlighted the possibility of low to moderate flooding in rivers and streams across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Additionally, flash floods are feared in the Bagh and Kotli districts of Azad Kashmir.
Flooding concerns extend to Balochistan as well, with districts including Zhob, Musakhel, Kohlu, Barkhan, and Dera Bugti facing potential threats. The hill torrents of Dera Ghazi Khan and Rajanpur in Punjab are also under flood risk advisories.
Urban flooding could occur in several major cities, including Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Sialkot, Faisalabad, and Lahore, as per the NDMA report. Meanwhile, water levels at key dams have been closely monitored. Tarbela Dam’s water level was recorded at 1,548 feet, with storage nearly full at 97.94 percent. Mangla Dam’s water level stood at 1,205.2 feet, with storage at 62.99 percent.
