Lebanon and Israel Remain Divided on Hezbollah Disarmament in Rome Talks

Lebanon and Israel have failed to reach a consensus on the disarmament of Hezbollah during the second day of resumed negotiations held in Rome. The talks, aimed at addressing long-standing security concerns, also focus on the withdrawal of Israeli forces from South Lebanon. Despite diplomatic efforts, both sides remain entrenched in their positions, highlighting the complexity of the regional conflict.

Hezbollah, a powerful militant and political group in Lebanon, has been a major point of contention due to its armed status and influence in Lebanese politics. Israel views Hezbollah as a significant security threat, demanding its disarmament as a precondition for any progress. Meanwhile, Lebanon insists on maintaining Hezbollah’s arms as a resistance force, complicating the dialogue.

These discussions in Rome are part of broader international attempts to stabilize the volatile border region and reduce hostilities that have led to repeated conflicts. The inability to resolve these issues prolongs tensions between the two countries, impacting regional security and diplomatic relations. Continued stalemate underscores the challenges in achieving lasting peace in the Middle East.
