The Sindh government has officially declared July 29, 2026, as a public holiday throughout the province to commemorate the annual Urs of the revered Sufi poet, Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai. This announcement was made on Monday through a formal notification issued by the provincial authorities.
The holiday will be observed across all provincial government offices, autonomous and semi-autonomous bodies, corporations, and local councils that operate under the administrative jurisdiction of the Sindh government. This move ensures widespread participation in the cultural and spiritual festivities associated with the Urs.
Notably, the Urs of Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai is celebrated every year on the 14th of Safar, the second month of the Islamic Hijri calendar. The event spans three days, during which various activities are organized to honor the legacy of the Sufi saint. These include poetry recitals, literary conferences, and other cultural programs that highlight the profound impact of Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai’s poetry and teachings.
