At least 12 people have lost their lives and 18 others sustained injuries in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa over the last 48 hours due to heavy rainfall and flash floods affecting several districts, the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) confirmed.
The fatalities include five men, five children, and two women, while the injured consist of 10 men, four women, and four children. The severe weather also caused damage to 18 houses throughout the province, with 15 partially damaged and three completely destroyed.
Flood-related incidents were reported in Peshawar, Nowshera, Khyber, Mardan, Buner, Bajaur, and other districts. In response, PDMA, Rescue 1122, and local district administrations have launched relief and rescue operations in the hardest-hit areas. Authorities have urged district officials to expedite relief efforts and ensure prompt delivery of aid and supplies to affected families.
Meanwhile, water levels in all rivers and streams across the province remain within normal limits. The PDMA has forecast that intermittent heavy rains will continue across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa until July 23, potentially exacerbating the situation further.
