The Balochistan government and a protest committee representing the families of the Ziarat martyrs have finalized a written agreement following successful negotiations, marking a significant step towards peace and reconciliation in the province.

This breakthrough came as a result of Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti’s efforts to mediate the dispute. The government described the agreement as a foundation for mutual trust and harmony between the parties involved.

Health Minister Bakht Muhammad Kakar, who led the government’s negotiation team, addressed the jirga and credited the accord to the chief minister’s prudent leadership and strategic reconciliation approach. He emphasized that the agreement strengthens public confidence in the government, reinforces the rule of law, and fulfills the promises made to the families of the martyrs.

Kakar assured that all legitimate demands of the martyrs’ families would be met in line with existing policies, affirming that “no one would be left alone.” The government’s commitments include establishing a judicial commission, enhancing consultations on law and order, and increasing police capacity to maintain security.

The minister also highlighted the sacrifices of the Pakistan Army, Frontier Corps, police, Levies, and other law enforcement agencies, stating that their efforts are vital to the ongoing pursuit of peace. He recognized the martyrs’ sacrifices as a national asset and underscored the government’s responsibility to support their families.

Meanwhile, Balochistan Governor Sheikh Jaffar Mandokhail welcomed the agreement, calling it a crucial step toward lasting peace and stability in the region. He stressed that political dialogue and mutual understanding are more effective than confrontation for resolving conflicts.

The governor confirmed that the judicial commission would conduct a transparent and impartial investigation into the Ziarat incident. Furthermore, the victims will be officially acknowledged as martyrs, with their families receiving financial aid, educational support for their children, and other entitlements as part of a comprehensive compensation package.

In addition, several government buildings will be named in honor of the victims to recognize their sacrifices. Addressing concerns from local residents about revenue issues, Mandokhail announced the formation of a committee, led by the provincial revenue minister, to resolve public grievances.

He also praised the negotiating committee, political leaders, and the families for their patience and wisdom throughout the talks. The governor concluded by stating that these successful negotiations have paved the way for sustainable peace in Balochistan and have reinforced the democratic tradition of resolving disputes through dialogue and consensus.
