Security forces successfully prevented a significant terrorist attack during an intelligence-driven operation in Wana town, located in South Waziristan district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The operation resulted in the destruction of a vehicle loaded with explosives and the death of one terrorist.
The targeted individual was identified as a member of the Fitna al-Khawarij group. In addition to the fatality, five other terrorists sustained injuries during the operation. Security personnel had been monitoring the vehicle for three consecutive days before taking action.
Notably, the vehicle was engaged only after it moved away from densely populated areas, ensuring the safety of civilians and minimizing collateral damage. The explosives were intended for a suicide bombing, which was averted by the timely intervention.
This incident follows a recent operation in Bannu district, where security forces eliminated at least 24 terrorists linked to the same group. The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) highlighted that these actions were part of a broader response to a surge in terrorist attacks targeting law enforcement and civilians in the region.
ISPR emphasized that the Fitna al-Khawarij, described as an Indian proxy, had intensified vehicle-borne suicide bombings and assaults on police in Bannu. In the past 24 hours, fierce clashes led to the elimination of 24 militants affiliated with this group.
Since the Afghan Taliban’s takeover in 2021, Pakistan has experienced increased terrorist activity, especially in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan. In response to cross-border attacks originating from Afghanistan, Pakistan launched “Operation Ghazab lil-Haq” in February 2024.
Information Minister Ataullah Tarar reported that this operation has resulted in the deaths of at least 684 Afghan Taliban operatives and allied militants, with over 900 injured, reflecting Pakistan’s ongoing efforts to counter terrorism in the region.
