Met Office Forecasts First Monsoon Rains Across Multiple Pakistani Regions

The Meteorological Department has announced the arrival of the initial organized monsoon rainfall across various parts of Pakistan, focusing primarily on the northern and northeastern regions. This monsoon phase is expected to bring intermittent showers, with isolated heavy rainfall potentially leading to urban flooding in low-lying areas and flash floods in vulnerable mountainous zones.

In Punjab, rain accompanied by wind and thunderstorms is anticipated in major urban centers such as Lahore, Rawalpindi, Faisalabad, Gujranwala, Sialkot, Sargodha, Jhelum, and Chakwal, along with their surrounding vicinities. The precipitation may occasionally extend to southern and central districts, including Multan, Bahawalpur, and Dera Ghazi Khan, while the northeastern parts of Punjab and the Potohar plateau are likely to experience more intense rainfall spells.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will see scattered rain showers and thunderstorms across most districts, including Peshawar, Swat, Abbottabad, Mardan, Dir, Chitral, and Kohat. The higher altitude and mountainous areas in the province are expected to receive isolated heavy rain accompanied by strong winds.

Northern and northeastern districts of Balochistan, such as Zhob, Barkhan, Sibi, Kohlu, and Dera Bugti, are forecasted to receive light to moderate rainfall, with some locations possibly experiencing isolated heavy showers.

In Sindh, scattered rain, wind, and thunderstorms are predicted mainly during July 3–4 in districts including Sukkur, Larkana, Dadu, and Jacobabad. These showers may be accompanied by gusty winds at certain isolated spots.

Gilgit-Baltistan is expected to witness moderate to heavy rainfall in several districts, including Skardu, Gilgit, and Hunza. This raises concerns about flash floods and landslides in the region’s mountainous terrain.

Azad Jammu and Kashmir will likely experience widespread rain and thunderstorms during this period. Heavier precipitation in the higher altitude areas may increase the risk of landslides and localized flooding.

Authorities have advised the public to remain cautious and vigilant as the monsoon system advances across the country, emphasizing preparedness for potential adverse weather impacts.
