Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif addressed the National Assembly on Monday, declaring that the world has reached a historic milestone for peace, describing it as the dawn of a new era following prolonged conflict. He revealed that Iran and the United States have agreed to a permanent cessation of hostilities on all fronts, marking a significant breakthrough for international stability.

In a notable development, the prime minister announced that the formal ceremony to commemorate this landmark agreement will take place in Geneva on June 19, while Pakistan will serve as the host for the associated diplomatic proceedings. He extended congratulations to both the Pakistani nation and the global community, emphasizing the achievement as a moment of great significance.

PM Shehbaz also expressed his appreciation to members of the National Assembly and political leaders across party lines for their support. He acknowledged the guidance and encouragement of prominent figures including President Asif Ali Zardari, Muhammad Nawaz Sharif, and Bilawal Bhutto Zardari throughout the diplomatic efforts. Furthermore, he commended former US President Donald Trump and Iranian leaders, notably Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei and President Masoud Pezeshkian, for their instrumental roles in facilitating the agreement.

The prime minister highlighted the dedication of the negotiating teams, praising their patience and resilience during challenging phases that were crucial to sustaining the dialogue. He singled out key international figures such as Qatar’s Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan for their vital support in advancing the talks. Additionally, he thanked Chinese President Xi Jinping for promoting diplomatic cooperation, along with other friendly nations that contributed to the process.

Special recognition was given to Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar for his exceptional efforts in driving the peace initiative forward. PM Shehbaz described this achievement as a rare and historic moment that nations often wait centuries to witness, urging the people of Pakistan to express gratitude to Almighty Allah for this positive development.

In a significant acknowledgment, the prime minister credited Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir for his tireless commitment during the negotiations. He recounted moments when the talks seemed on the verge of collapse but emphasized how the military leadership’s steadfastness and wisdom ensured the process endured. The entire nation, he said, honors the dedication of all individuals involved in this journey toward peace.

PM Shehbaz also recognized the resilience of the Pakistani people during difficult times and assured that the government has worked to protect citizens from the harshest economic impacts. He expressed confidence that the peace agreement will foster global economic stability and pledged that relief efforts would continue to support the common populace.
