The Saudi Ministry of Defence has unveiled dramatic footage highlighting the strategic deployment of advanced air defence missile systems near the Islamic holy sites as part of an extensive security operation for the annual Hajj pilgrimage.
The video, released through official channels, demonstrates the Royal Saudi Air Defence Forces’ preparedness to safeguard the airspace over Makkah and Madinah. This deployment is a critical component of an “integrated readiness system” designed to intercept any potential aerial threats, ensuring the safety and peace of mind for millions of pilgrims arriving for the sacred event.
In a significant development, the defensive perimeter established around the holy sites constitutes one of the most sophisticated point-defence architectures ever implemented for a civilian gathering. Military personnel operate a multi-layered missile shield capable of detecting and neutralizing a wide range of airborne threats.
Alongside these missile batteries, the Royal Saudi Air Force maintains continuous airspace surveillance and air traffic control. Fixed-wing aircraft and dedicated emergency surveillance teams are integrated into the command network, providing real-time intelligence to ground controllers and maintaining vigilant oversight over the main pilgrimage routes.
Moreover, the security framework extends beyond traditional anti-aircraft measures by incorporating cutting-edge artificial intelligence. Saudi authorities deploy a fleet of surveillance drones equipped with thermal imaging and high-resolution cameras to monitor large crowds, manage congestion, and prevent unauthorized access to the holy sites.
On the ground, specialized units from the Land Forces, including Special Military Police and Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear (CBRN) defence teams, are positioned around the Grand Mosque. These units are responsible for crowd management, detection of hazardous materials, and rapid emergency response.
Supported by naval forces securing regional seaports, this multi-branch security operation aims to provide a seamless and secure environment as the global Muslim community gathers for the sacred rites of Hajj.
