Tom Kane, the distinguished voice actor celebrated for bringing to life characters such as Yoda in various Star Wars projects and Professor Utonium in The Powerpuff Girls, has passed away at the age of 64. His death on Monday was the result of complications stemming from a stroke he suffered in 2020.

Throughout his extensive career, Kane became a familiar voice across animation, documentaries, and video games, amassing close to 300 acting credits. He was especially recognized within the Star Wars franchise as the narrator of Star Wars: The Clone Wars, where his dramatic introductions set the tone for the series. Additionally, he voiced Yoda and several other characters in the animated series and contributed to multiple Star Wars productions, including the role of Admiral Ackbar in Star Wars: The Last Jedi.

Beyond the Star Wars universe, Kane’s voice defined a generation of cartoon enthusiasts through his portrayal of Professor Utonium, the scientist who created the Powerpuff Girls. He also voiced the villain HIM in the original series. His work extended to beloved animated shows from the 1990s and 2000s, such as The Wild Thornberrys, where he voiced Darwin the chimpanzee, reprising this role in The Wild Thornberrys Movie and Rugrats Go Wild.

His extensive résumé includes appearances in fan-favorite cartoons like Johnny Bravo, Cow and Chicken, The Angry Beavers, Kim Possible, and Avatar: The Last Airbender, solidifying his reputation as one of animation’s most recognizable voices.

In a significant development in late 2020, Kane’s daughter disclosed that he had suffered a stroke that severely impacted his ability to speak, read, and spell. Despite these challenges, he remained mentally sharp and in good spirits, showing signs of recovery.

Although Kane had stepped back from professional work in recent years, he maintained a connection with his fans. Notably, he commemorated Star Wars Day earlier this month by sharing a throwback video on Instagram of himself throwing the ceremonial first pitch at a baseball game, captioned, “May the force be with you.” In March, he reunited with Cathy Cavadini, Tara Strong, and E.G. Daily, the actresses behind the Powerpuff Girls, posting a joyful photo with the caption, “Reunited with my girls!!” Tara Strong responded, expressing the emotional significance of their reunion.

His representative also highlighted Kane’s role as a devoted family man, noting that he and his wife raised nine children, including six through adoption and fostering. Though his voice has fallen silent, the characters, stories, and love he shared continue to resonate and endure.
