Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif declared on Wednesday that Pakistan has established itself as a pivotal force for peace and stability in the region, attributing this achievement to the country’s effective diplomatic initiatives. He highlighted Pakistan’s instrumental role in facilitating historic talks between Iran and the United States, marking a significant breakthrough since 1979.
Speaking at the 6th International Paigham-e-Islam Conference held in Islamabad, the prime minister emphasized that the event symbolized the unity of the Muslim Ummah and recognized the crucial contributions of religious scholars in fostering harmony across communities.
He revealed that Pakistan successfully convinced the leadership of both Iran and the United States to engage in direct dialogue, with the meetings taking place in Islamabad on April 11 and 12. Expressing gratitude to both nations for accepting Pakistan’s invitation and agreeing to a ceasefire, he noted that this development reflects the high level of trust the international community places in Pakistan’s diplomatic capabilities.
In a significant development, PM Shehbaz expressed hope that Pakistan’s ongoing efforts will pave the way for lasting peace in the region. He also paid tribute to Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman for his vital role in promoting regional stability. Additionally, he acknowledged the support extended by China, Turkiye, and other friendly countries in these peace initiatives.
The prime minister commended Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, along with Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, for their instrumental roles in bringing the conflicting parties to the negotiation table. He prayed for the success of Pakistan’s mission to secure a permanent ceasefire and underscored the importance of strengthening ties with Saudi Arabia, noting that bilateral relations have reached unprecedented levels, including enhanced defense cooperation.
Reiterating Pakistan’s commitment to safeguarding the Haramain Sharifain (holy sites), he described this responsibility as a matter deeply rooted in faith. Addressing recent internal challenges, the prime minister stressed national unity beyond sectarian divides and reaffirmed Pakistan’s dedication to maintaining peace within its borders.
He called upon religious scholars (Ulema) to actively promote unity and solidarity through their sermons, urging citizens to stand united for the country’s stability. Reaffirming Pakistan’s unwavering support for the people of Palestine and Kashmir, he pledged continued assistance until they achieve their independence.
Furthermore, the prime minister condemned those involved in terrorism and attempts to sow discord within the Muslim Ummah. In recognition of outstanding contributions to the Muslim community, he presented shields to distinguished individuals who have rendered notable services.
