Former Senator Mushtaq Ahmad Freed After Detention by Israeli Forces

Former Pakistani Senator Mushtaq Ahmad Khan has been freed following his unlawful detention by Israeli authorities while engaged in a humanitarian aid mission to the Gaza Strip. The seasoned politician was part of an international group aboard the Global Sumud, a vessel in the Freedom Flotilla aiming to break the blockade and deliver vital supplies to Palestinians.

After being seized at sea, Mushtaq Ahmad was held by Israeli forces before being deported. In a significant development, his release was facilitated by coordinated efforts between Greek and Turkish authorities. Upon release, Hellenic officials assisted him in Crete, Greece, and the Turkish government arranged for his safe transfer to Istanbul. From there, plans were made for his return to Pakistan, where he is expected to be warmly welcomed by supporters and human rights advocates.

The collaboration between Athens and Ankara was crucial in ensuring the former Senator’s swift and secure transit following his distressing experience at sea. Despite the detention, Mushtaq Ahmad remains in good spirits and continues to express his dedication to the Palestinian cause.

Meanwhile, Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a strong condemnation of the illegal detention of humanitarian workers. The ministry described the obstruction of aid to Gaza as a blatant violation of international humanitarian law and a callous disregard for human life in the besieged enclave.

Reaffirming its diplomatic position, Pakistan reiterated its steadfast support for the Palestinian people and their right to self-determination. The government also urged the international community to guarantee the safety of aid workers and to hold occupying forces accountable for maintaining the blockade that restricts essential life-saving resources.
