Pakistan is commemorating International Workers’ Day with a wave of significant messages from top-tier government officials, emphasizing the country’s dedication to upholding workers’ rights. From the President to the Prime Minister and Punjab Police, leaders nationwide have paid homage to the labor force, vowing to tackle exploitation, forced labor, and child labor.

These observances also underscored the critical role workers play in driving the nation’s economy, alongside ongoing initiatives aimed at enhancing their working and living standards. President Asif Ali Zardari highlighted that protecting workers is vital for securing Pakistan’s future. He stressed that fair compensation, reasonable working hours, and respectful working environments are fundamental entitlements for every worker.

Furthermore, the President pointed out that Pakistan’s Constitution underpins the country’s commitment to eradicating exploitation. He described workers as the backbone of the national economy and reaffirmed the government’s determination to eliminate unfair wages, forced labor, and child labor throughout the country.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed solidarity with the global community in celebrating Workers’ Day, paying tribute to laborers worldwide, with special emphasis on Pakistani workers. He highlighted the significance of overseas workers, whose remittances are a key pillar of the nation’s economic stability.

The Prime Minister also mentioned that national institutions are actively working to improve the facilities and conditions for workers. He called on citizens to renew their dedication to safeguarding labor rights.

In a significant development, the Punjab Police also honored workers for their contributions to national progress and economic activities. Inspector General Rao Abdul Kareem reiterated the police force’s commitment to protecting workers’ rights, stating that this remains a top priority under the provincial leadership’s vision.

The Punjab Police announced comprehensive security arrangements for Labour Day events, including rallies, and declared a strict stance against any form of exploitation or abuse of workers, including domestic laborers. Authorities confirmed ongoing collaboration with relevant organizations to eradicate child labor and forced labor across the province.
