BTS RM Explains Why Jungkook Missed Solo Super Bowl Halftime Show Opportunity

BTS member Jungkook was on the verge of performing solo at one of the world’s most prestigious stages, the Super Bowl Halftime Show, before plans were halted because of his compulsory military service. In a recent interview released on April 13, BTS leader RM disclosed that Usher had extended an invitation to Jungkook to join the 2024 Super Bowl festivities. However, the opportunity ultimately fell through.

“Usher invited him before the military, but it didn’t work out because of the military,” RM explained, confirming long-standing fan speculation about Jungkook’s potential appearance at the event.

Jungkook began his mandatory military duty in December 2023, alongside fellow BTS member Jimin. Both were assigned to the Army’s 5th Infantry Division Artillery Brigade, Korean media. In South Korea, all able-bodied men aged 18 to 28 must complete military service, which typically lasts between 18 and 21 months.

Despite missing this chance, BTS expressed great respect for the Super Bowl Halftime Show’s scale and impact. “Officially, unofficially, I think it’s the best event and show stage in the whole world,” RM said, with his bandmates agreeing on the platform’s immense significance.

While the missed opportunity may be disappointing for fans, BTS has not ruled out the possibility of appearing in the future. “Maybe if time goes by, and the thoughts in the people change. All of the people in the world are watching Parasite, all these great things in Korean culture. So if there’s a chance, we definitely want to someday,” RM added during the interview.

BTS’s latest album, Arirang, is currently available.
