The Chief Minister of Punjab, Maryam Nawaz Sharif, has issued a directive for heightened vigilance across the province in anticipation of heavy rainfall predicted in Lahore and surrounding areas. This proactive measure aims to mitigate the potential impact of the adverse weather conditions on the region’s infrastructure and public safety.
In her statement, the Chief Minister underscored the importance of fully deploying the Water & Sanitation Authority (WASA) Punjab’s sewerage flats throughout all districts. This strategy is intended to effectively manage water accumulation and prevent urban flooding, which has historically posed challenges during intense rain events.
Furthermore, Maryam Nawaz Sharif called for the utilization of advanced machinery to expedite the drainage process, ensuring that rainwater is swiftly removed from affected areas. She highlighted that since WASA’s inception, the public should experience improved relief and convenience when confronting such weather-related challenges.
These instructions come amid growing concerns over the seasonal monsoon rains, which have previously resulted in casualties and injuries in the province. The Chief Minister’s orders reflect a commitment to strengthening disaster preparedness and enhancing the capacity of local authorities to respond effectively to heavy rainfall incidents.
