Karachi Traffic Cop’s Bicycle Commute Highlights Petrol Price Impact

In Karachi, a video capturing a traffic police officer commuting on a bicycle has gained widespread attention on social media following a significant surge in petrol prices. The increase in fuel costs has impacted not only the general population but also law enforcement personnel tasked with daily duties.

The officer, identified as Head Constable Imtiaz, was seen cycling to his assigned post, a scene that quickly went viral and sparked discussions about the financial challenges faced by many. In the video, Imtiaz explained that he switched to a bicycle to reduce his daily travel expenses due to the steep rise in petrol prices.

This viral moment underscores the broader economic pressure felt across Pakistan as fuel costs continue to climb. Meanwhile, an SSU commando in Karachi voiced similar concerns, highlighting that the combination of escalating petrol prices and deteriorating road conditions has made routine responsibilities increasingly difficult. He urged the government to introduce relief measures to alleviate the burden on both officials and citizens.

In a related development, Federal Minister for Information Technology Shaza Fatima Khawaja announced that fuel subsidies will be limited to vehicles registered with the Excise Department as part of the government’s relief package. Under the leadership of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, these relief initiatives have been accelerated to mitigate public hardship.

The government launched a digital transfer system for subsidies last night to promote transparency and efficiency. During a press conference with Minister of State for Finance Bilal Azhar Kayani, Shaza Fatima detailed the eligibility criteria, stressing that only vehicles with complete and proper registration documentation will qualify for the subsidies. This measure aims to ensure that the financial assistance reaches the intended recipients, excluding unregistered or improperly documented vehicles.
