Iran Claims US and Israel Targeted Sharif University in Recent Strikes

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi announced on Monday that US and Israeli forces had struck what he described as the ‘MIT of Iran,’ referring to one of the country’s foremost universities. He stated on the social media platform X that the “Israeli-US aggressors” had bombed the facility, following previous attacks on other academic institutions.

While Araqchi did not provide additional details, there was no immediate response from either the United States or Israel regarding the allegations. The university in question is widely believed to be Sharif University of Technology in Tehran, renowned as Iran’s leading center for science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.

Established in 1966, Sharif University is often compared to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology due to its prominence in STEM fields. In his statement, Araqchi included a religious reference, emphasizing that despite external pressures, knowledge would remain accessible to Iranians and warning that those responsible for the attacks would face repercussions.

This declaration comes amid rising tensions in the region, with reports of multiple sites in Iran being targeted in recent days, signaling an escalation in hostilities.
