Karachi Weather Forecast: Rain and Thunderstorms Due to Westerly Wave

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has predicted partly cloudy skies over Karachi on Monday, accompanied by a chance of thunderstorms and light to moderate rainfall. This weather pattern is attributed to a westerly wave currently influencing southwestern parts of the country.

Temperatures in Karachi are expected to remain mild, with daytime highs ranging from 29°C to 31°C, while the minimum temperature recently recorded stood at 22.3°C.

The ongoing westerly wave is causing unstable weather conditions across southwestern regions, leading to anticipated rainfall in Karachi and several districts throughout Sindh. Areas forecasted to receive precipitation include Karachi Division, Jamshoro, Dadu, Qamber Shahdadkot, Jacobabad, Naushahro Feroze, Shaheed Benazirabad, Sanghar, Mirpurkhas, Matiari, Hyderabad, Tando Muhammad Khan, Tando Allahyar, Thatta, Badin, and Sujawal.

Meanwhile, Sukkur, Kashmore, and Ghotki are expected to experience moderate to heavy rainfall, with isolated hailstorm possibilities.

Looking ahead, the weather in Karachi is projected to stabilize gradually after Monday. Tuesday will bring mostly sunny conditions with occasional winds, followed by predominantly sunny weather on Wednesday.

Notably, Karachi recently endured a severe rainfall event that caused significant disruption. On April 2, torrential rains resulted in multiple fatalities and widespread urban flooding. The city recorded 38.7 mm of rainfall within 24 hours, setting a new record for the highest April rainfall in Karachi’s history, surpassing the previous record of 37 mm set on April 2, 1985.
