Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif held discussions with a delegation led by Kaan Terzioğlu, CEO of VEON Group, focusing on investment and collaboration in Pakistan’s digital sector. He assured that the government is committed to providing comprehensive facilitation to investors in the digital operators industry. Highlighting the recent successful auction of the 5G spectrum, the prime minister described it as a testament to Pakistan’s innovative approach and clear strategic vision.
He further explained that Pakistan is implementing a broad strategy aimed at fostering innovation within the IT sector and attracting global investment. Practical measures are being taken, with the cooperation of all relevant institutions, to ease the entry and operations of international investors. Additionally, Shehbaz Sharif emphasized the government’s priority to leverage information technology to transition towards a cashless economy.
VEON Group CEO Kaan Terzioğlu praised the government’s transparency and investment-friendly policies, acknowledging Pakistan’s swift advancements in the digital economy and the 5G spectrum auction as remarkable achievements. The meeting also included Federal Ministers Muhammad Aurangzeb, Shaza Fatima, Ahsan Iqbal, and other senior officials.
In a significant development for the IT sector, Pakistan’s IT exports reached an unprecedented $1.057 billion during the first quarter of the fiscal year 2025–26, marking a 20 percent increase compared to the same period last year. From July to September, exports surged from $877 million to $1.057 billion, demonstrating robust growth momentum. This impressive performance has been attributed to the expansion of Pakistani IT firms into Gulf and European markets, supported by favorable government policies and initiatives under the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC).
Notably, in September 2025 alone, monthly IT exports hit a record $366 million, the State Bank of Pakistan, underscoring the sector’s accelerating contribution to the national economy.
