Taylor Swift Faces Lawsuit Over ‘The Life of a Showgirl’ Album Title

Taylor Swift is facing legal action concerning her latest album, The Life of a Showgirl. A writer and television host based in Las Vegas has filed a lawsuit accusing the singer of disregarding her rights to a similar title.

On Monday, Maren Wade initiated the lawsuit in a California federal court, alleging trademark infringement, false designation, and unfair competition related to the album’s title. Wade holds the trademark for Confessions of a Showgirl and is seeking a court order to prevent Swift from using the title of her twelfth studio album, which was released in October 2025. The lawsuit also demands unspecified damages from Universal Music Group (UMG) Recordings and Swift.

Wade’s attorney emphasized the impact on their client, stating that a solo artist who has spent over a decade building a brand should not have to see it undermined by a more prominent figure entering the market.

Maren Wade, a columnist for Las Vegas Weekly, began her column titled Confessions of a Showgirl in 2014, sharing her insights and experiences within the entertainment industry. This project later evolved into a podcast and live performances featuring pop and jazz music. Her trademark extends to theatrical productions, live stage shows, television, and other related ventures.

The lawsuit claims that Swift and her team ignored Wade’s trademark rights. The complaint highlights that the album’s title was rapidly used on consumer products, labels, tags, and packaging, targeting the same audience Wade had cultivated over many years.
