Germany to Rotate Squad Ahead of Friendly Against Ghana

Germany will implement several adjustments to their squad for Monday’s friendly match against Ghana, as some players require rest following their exhausting 4-3 victory over Switzerland earlier this week, stated coach Julian Nagelsmann. The German team staged two comebacks to secure the thrilling win on Friday.

Notably, Stuttgart goalkeeper Alexander Nuebel is set to start, alongside his club teammate and forward Deniz Undav, who is also assured playing time. Nagelsmann explained that the upcoming game demands more rotation to accommodate players recovering from injuries.

“We aim to keep the squad fit and healthy as the critical phase of the season approaches,” Nagelsmann remarked during a Sunday press conference. He emphasized that many players still face demanding club schedules involving multiple competitions before the World Cup kicks off in June.

In a significant development, the friendly against Ghana will be the final match before Nagelsmann announces his World Cup squad in May. He acknowledged that not all players will be satisfied with the selections, adding, “There will be discussions, that’s clear. Every player knows exactly where they stand, whether their place is secure or not.”

With the World Cup just two months away, Nagelsmann highlighted the importance of players understanding their status within the team.

Germany, who have not reached a major international final since their 2014 World Cup triumph in Brazil, have been drawn into Group E alongside Ecuador, Curacao, and Ivory Coast for the tournament running from June 11 to July 19. Their opening match will take place in Houston, Texas on June 14 against Curacao. Subsequently, Germany will face Ivory Coast in Toronto on June 20, before concluding the group stage against Ecuador in New York on June 25.

Meanwhile, Ghana is placed in Group L with Croatia, England, and Panama.
