The United Arab Emirates is preparing for one of its most celebrated public holidays of 2026, as residents anticipate an extended break for Eid Al Adha. Known as the “Festival of Sacrifice,” this significant occasion honors Prophet Ibrahim’s devotion in his willingness to sacrifice his son as an act of obedience to God. Traditionally, the festival is marked by prayers, acts of charity, and gatherings of family members.

Astronomical forecasts suggest that the holiday period will commence on Tuesday, 26 May 2026, with Arafat Day, followed by Eid Al Adha festivities spanning from Wednesday, 27 May, through Friday, 29 May. When combined with the weekend, this could result in a holiday stretch lasting up to six days, prompting many to plan their travels early and leading to a surge in bookings across the country.

It is important to note that the official dates depend on the moon sighting, which may cause slight adjustments. Nevertheless, this extended holiday is expected to be a key highlight in the UAE’s 2026 calendar.

Looking ahead, the UAE’s public holiday schedule for 2026 also includes the Islamic New Year, anticipated on Wednesday, 17 June, and the UAE National Day, also known as Eid Al Etihad, observed on Wednesday and Thursday, 2–3 December. These occasions offer additional opportunities for residents to enjoy extended breaks throughout the year.

Summary of Expected UAE Public Holidays 2026:
    Arafat Day: Tuesday, 26 May
Eid Al Adha: Wednesday, 27 May to Friday, 29 May
Combined with weekend: Up to six-day holiday
Islamic New Year: Wednesday, 17 June
UAE National Day (Eid Al Etihad): Wednesday–Thursday, 2–3 December

All dates remain subject to confirmation based on moon sighting.
