Amazon Set to Relaunch Smartphone Over a Decade After Fire Phone Failure

Amazon is preparing to introduce a new smartphone, marking its first entry into the mobile market in over ten years. The device, internally named “Transformer,” is designed to serve as a “mobile personalization device” that seamlessly integrates with Amazon’s voice assistant, Alexa.

In a significant development, the phone aims to simplify user interaction with Amazon’s ecosystem, including shopping on Amazon, streaming Prime Video, and listening to Prime Music. Artificial intelligence will be a core component of the device, although Alexa might not function as the phone’s primary operating system. This implies that Amazon could be leveraging AI technology from an external company to power the smartphone.

Notably, this new project follows the company’s earlier attempt with the Fire Phone, launched in 2014 and discontinued about a year later due to poor market performance. Unlike the Fire Phone, which featured a pseudo-3D interface and was released when AI was less mature, the upcoming device is expected to benefit from significant advancements in AI technology.

Currently, the new Amazon phone is in the early stages of development, with plans for Amazon to handle full assembly. Details regarding the launch timeline, pricing, and projected revenue remain undisclosed at this time.
