WhatsApp is rolling out new features aimed at improving compatibility between Android and iOS devices. Meta, the parent company of WhatsApp, has introduced multi-account support for iPhones along with enhanced cross-platform chat transfer capabilities.
In a significant development, iPhone users can now operate two distinct WhatsApp accounts on a single device simultaneously. This feature, which has been available on Android since October 2023, is being gradually released worldwide. The multi-account functionality allows users to manage separate accounts without needing multiple devices, making it easier to keep personal and professional conversations distinct.
Users can switch between accounts by tapping their profile picture, a process similar to Instagram’s profile switching. To set up and toggle between accounts on an iPhone, users should follow these steps: open the app’s Settings, tap the plus icon next to their name, select Add Account, accept the platform’s policies by tapping Agree and Continue, choose their country, and enter the phone number for the new account. After receiving and inputting the six-digit verification code, users name the second profile, add a profile photo, and complete the setup. Switching accounts is as simple as accessing the Settings menu and selecting the desired profile.
Meanwhile, WhatsApp has also enhanced its chat transfer feature. Previously, users could move chat histories from Android to iPhone since June 2022, but transferring chats from iPhone to Android was not supported. The latest update now enables seamless migration of chat histories in both directions, further unifying the experience across platforms.
