In a landmark achievement at the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) elections, a panel supported by Pakistan won all three director positions for the first time since the ACC’s inception. The elections took place during the ACC Annual General Meeting held in Bangkok, which was chaired by Mohsin Naqvi, who serves as both ACC Chairman and Pakistan Cricket Board Chairman.
The Pakistan-backed candidates emerged victorious over a rival panel endorsed by India, in what was described as a tightly contested election. This outcome is regarded as a significant enhancement of Pakistan’s influence within the ACC and reflects a notable realignment of support among the council’s member nations.
India’s delegation was led by Rajeev Shukla, vice-president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). Among the successful candidates supported by Pakistan was Sheikh Abdulaziz, President of the Qatar Cricket Association, who secured one of the director seats.
Notably, this election result marks the first occasion on which a Pakistan-backed panel has claimed all three director roles since the ACC was founded. This victory comes amid Pakistan’s efforts to assert a stronger presence in regional cricket administration.
Meanwhile, the ACC meeting also addressed preparations for the 2027 Men’s Asia Cup, discussing potential venues in Bangladesh, including Sylhet, Chattogram, and Mirpur. The agenda further included plans for the Women’s Asia Cup and strategies to promote and develop cricket throughout Asia.
Additionally, the ACC reviewed its budget and other administrative issues during the annual gathering. The comprehensive sweep by the Pakistan-supported panel is viewed as a pivotal moment for Islamabad’s standing within the continental cricket organization.
