Michy Batshuayi, the former Chelsea and Belgium international striker, has embarked on a new chapter in his football career by signing with Abha, a club recently promoted to the Saudi Pro League. The 32-year-old forward joined Abha on a free transfer following his departure from Bundesliga outfit Eintracht Frankfurt, with the announcement made public on Monday.
Batshuayi’s stint at Eintracht Frankfurt began in February 2025 when he transferred from Turkish champions Galatasaray. During his time in Germany, he made 21 appearances across all competitions and found the back of the net four times. Despite his contributions, the forward has now opted to continue his career in Saudi Arabia, joining a club eager to establish itself in the top tier of Saudi football.
Abha officially revealed the signing on the social media platform X, sharing images from the contract signing ceremony and expressing confidence in Batshuayi’s impact with the phrase, “One chance is all he needs … Michy Batshuayi is Abhawi.” This move adds a significant boost to Abha’s attacking options as they aim to improve on their recent performances.
Batshuayi brings a wealth of experience from his extensive career across Europe and Turkey. His previous clubs include Standard Liege, Olympique de Marseille, Chelsea, Crystal Palace, Borussia Dortmund, Valencia, Besiktas, Fenerbahce, and Galatasaray. On the international stage, he was part of Belgium’s squad that secured third place at the 2018 FIFA World Cup and also represented his country at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. Meanwhile, Abha kicked off their return to the Saudi Pro League with a narrow 2-1 loss to Al Hazem last week, highlighting the challenges ahead for the newly promoted side.
