Abbas Afridi Credits Hard Work and Guidance for PSL Success

Karachi Kings fast bowler Abbas Afridi has attributed his ongoing growth to persistent effort, family mentorship, and a supportive team atmosphere as he prepares for a competitive HBL Pakistan Super League (PSL) 11 season. Reflecting on his progression from youth cricket to the PSL, Afridi emphasized the value of determination and consistent practice.

“I have been involved in cricket for many years, including performing well at the Under-19 level, which helped me reach this stage. I continue to work hard every day and am thankful to Allah for my current position,” he stated.

Notably, Afridi acknowledged the significant influence of his uncle, former Pakistan fast bowler Umar Gul, who has provided both guidance and strict discipline. “Having a Test cricketer in the family is a great advantage; you learn a lot but also face criticism when needed. After my last match, when my bowling was off, he pointed out my mistakes and advised me on adapting my bowling to different situations. He frequently calls to offer advice and help me improve,” Afridi explained.

Meanwhile, the young pacer expressed enthusiasm about playing alongside seasoned international stars. “It’s an incredible experience to be under the leadership of captain David Warner and share the dressing room with players like Moeen Ali and Adam Zampa. Their guidance and experience are invaluable,” he added.

Afridi also praised team director Haider Azhar for cultivating a positive and united team environment. “Much credit goes to Haider bhai for fostering such a great atmosphere within the squad. The team’s positive vibe is crucial, and InshaAllah, we will give our best to win the trophy this season,” he remarked.

Discussing his skills, Afridi revealed that while bowling remains his main focus, he is equally dedicated to enhancing his batting to contribute in critical moments. “My uncle often tells me to prioritize bowling, but I also put significant effort into my batting because there are times when quick runs are essential in the final overs. I aim to be ready for any situation by balancing both skills,” he said.

In a significant development, Afridi views the PSL as a key platform for returning to international cricket. “The PSL offers a fantastic opportunity for players to break into the international scene. My ambition is to make a comeback to the Pakistan team through strong performances in this tournament,” he concluded.
