Pakistan has confirmed that Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian will arrive in Islamabad on Tuesday for an official visit, extended by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. This visit marks Pezeshkian’s second trip to Pakistan in his role as president and will include a high-level delegation comprising cabinet ministers and senior officials.
During his stay, President Pezeshkian is set to meet with President Asif Ali Zardari and engage in formal discussions with Prime Minister Sharif. Additionally, the Chairman of the Senate, the Speaker of the National Assembly, and the Deputy Prime Minister/Foreign Minister are scheduled to hold meetings with the Iranian president.
The visit aims to comprehensively review bilateral relations and explore opportunities to enhance cooperation in various sectors such as trade, energy, border security, people-to-people exchanges, and regional connectivity. This engagement will also provide a platform to discuss ongoing diplomatic efforts following the signing of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), as well as regional and international developments of shared interest.
Notably, Iranian state media highlighted that the visit will be a one-day trip focused on expressing Tehran’s gratitude to Prime Minister Sharif for Pakistan’s recent diplomatic mediation between Iran and the United States. The discussions will also emphasize sustaining high-level bilateral engagement, advancing cooperation, and assessing the progress of previously agreed economic initiatives.
Earlier confirmations from the Iranian embassy in Islamabad indicated that President Pezeshkian is expected to arrive during the daytime on Tuesday, underscoring the significance of this diplomatic engagement between the two neighboring countries.
