Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif commemorated Youm-e-Takbeer on May 28, 2026, describing the day as a pivotal moment in Pakistan’s history. He emphasized how the nation displayed unwavering determination, unity, and exceptional courage by becoming a nuclear power.
He recalled that on May 28, 1998, Pakistan conducted nuclear tests in direct response to India’s nuclear detonations. This decisive action not only restored strategic equilibrium in South Asia but also sent a strong message globally that Pakistan would never yield on its defense and sovereignty.
Shehbaz Sharif highlighted that Youm-e-Takbeer serves as a testament to the protection of the nation envisioned by Allama Muhammad Iqbal and established by Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, affirming that the country’s defense remains robust and secure.
Paying homage to those who contributed to the nuclear program, he acknowledged the visionary leadership of Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto, the bold decisions of Muhammad Nawaz Sharif, and the invaluable efforts of national heroes Dr. Abdul Qadeer Khan and Dr. Samar Mubarakmand. He also recognized the countless scientists, engineers, experts, armed forces personnel, and dedicated workers whose efforts fortified Pakistan’s defense.
The prime minister noted that India’s nuclear tests were driven by war hysteria, extremist ideologies, and expansionist goals. In contrast, Pakistan responded with prudence and determination, effectively thwarting India’s intentions through timely and resolute measures.
Despite facing international pressure, economic sanctions, and financial inducements, Muhammad Nawaz Sharif remained resolute, refusing to compromise Pakistan’s freedom, dignity, and sovereignty.
Shehbaz Sharif described Youm-e-Takbeer as a symbol of national pride, unity, sacrifice, and an unwavering commitment to homeland defense. He affirmed that Pakistan’s nuclear deterrent continues to serve as a critical shield against hostile ambitions.
In a significant development, he referenced recent events during the Maarka-e-Haq, where Pakistan once again showcased national unity in response to aggression. He condemned India’s staging of the Pahalgam false flag operation, which targeted civilians and mosques, but praised the armed forces and the nation for standing united like Bunyan-un-Marsoos, successfully defeating the enemy’s objectives and dismantling its arrogance regarding military strength and numbers.
The prime minister lauded the armed forces’ leadership, highlighting Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir for exemplary professionalism and operational excellence. He also commended Chief of the Air Staff Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Babar and Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Naveed Ashraf for reinforcing Pakistan’s strength and valor.
Shehbaz Sharif reiterated that Pakistan harbors no aggressive intentions but firmly reserves the right to defend its territory. He warned that following its humiliating defeat in Maarka-e-Haq, the enemy has resorted to proxy networks, specifically naming Fitna al-Khawarij and Fitna al-Hindustan, allegedly supported by the Afghan regime.
The prime minister assured that Pakistan remains committed to eradicating these threats and announced that Operation Ghazab lil-Haq will eliminate all hostile networks and their facilitators.
Concluding his message, he expressed the nation’s enduring gratitude to its heroes and called for renewed dedication to unity, peace, progress, stability, and the security of Pakistan.
