Jack Bergman, Co-Chair of the Congressional Pakistan Caucus, has conveyed his heartfelt appreciation to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) and Chief of the Army Staff Field Marshal Asim Munir for their pivotal role in facilitating ongoing peace negotiations between Washington and Tehran.
In his letter addressed to the premier and the army chief, Bergman emphasized that their collaboration has been vital to the success of these efforts. He highlighted that President Donald Trump has achieved what previous administrations could not, underscoring the enduring strategic importance of the United States’ relationship with Pakistan.
Notably, Bergman praised Pakistan’s unique position and willingness to mediate, describing it as a true example of statesmanship. He added that the White House, Congress, and the president have publicly acknowledged Pakistan’s contributions, sentiments he fully supports.
Expressing gratitude, Bergman stated, “You have our deep and lasting appreciation,” and expressed eagerness to visit Pakistan soon to further strengthen bilateral ties in person.
Pakistan has emerged as a crucial force for peace and stability in the region by successfully facilitating unprecedented talks between Iran and the US. These historic discussions, held in Islamabad on April 11 and 12, marked the first direct engagement between the two nations since 1979.
Earlier, on April 8, a US-Iran ceasefire was announced, brokered with Pakistan’s active involvement. President Trump has repeatedly commended PM Shehbaz and CDF Munir for their tireless efforts in mediating these talks.
During a telephonic interview with Fox News, Trump described PM Shehbaz and Field Marshal Munir as “great people” and expressed his profound respect for Pakistan’s top leadership. He often refers to CDF Munir as his “favourite field marshal,” a rapport developed during US efforts to ease tensions in a brief but intense conflict between Pakistan and India last year.
