Parachinar Airport Reopens After Extensive Rehabilitation Work

Parachinar Airport, located in the Kurram district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, has resumed operations after being inactive for an extended period. This revival follows comprehensive rehabilitation efforts undertaken by various state institutions.

In a significant development, the airport’s reopening was made possible through the combined efforts of the Pakistan Army, the Frontier Works Organization (FWO), and the Pakistan Airports Authority. The facility had remained non-operational for several years prior to undergoing substantial restoration and modernization work.

As part of the final stage of the rehabilitation project, Pakistan Army Aviation conducted successful operational trials on April 26, 2026. These trials involved six landing and take-off exercises designed to assess the runway’s durability, construction quality, and overall readiness for regular operations.

Officials confirmed that the runway and associated infrastructure met all professional and safety standards after being evaluated under various operational conditions during the testing phase.

With the successful completion of these tests, Parachinar Airport has officially entered its re-operational phase. This development is anticipated to enhance regional air connectivity, bolster emergency response capabilities, and stimulate economic growth in the surrounding area.
